The Filmic 5: Cozy Kino Edition
Your Weekly Film Superlatives By Critic and Film Scholar Jack Hanley
I. Film Essay I Am Loving (and Sharing) This Week

The immaculate Salman Rushdie is among my favorite public and literary intellectuals- his discourse on post-colonialist identity was a major cultural influence in my academic work. In the wake of the WICKED moment last week, imagine my delight to see that he has taken the time to critically discuss the beloved source material. I LOVE this essay...I hope you do too.

II. Cinephile Interview I Am Fondly Remembering This Week

I was thrilled to see that one of my favorite bands of my youth is returning to Denver next week for a show at The Federal.

I was fortunate some time ago to spend time with singer/songwriter and front-woman of the legendary ska-punk band Save Ferris to talk John Hughes soundtracks, romantic vs angst-ridden John Cusack, and that fucking spider/stairs scene from THE EXORCIST. Enjoy the interview and get out there and enjoy the show.

III. Four Favorites Clip I Am Loving This Week
The cast and crew of 100 NIGHTS OF HERO joined our friends at Letterboxd to talk- and recommend- their Four "Queer Favorites". My favorite four that immediately come to mind? DAISIES (1966) dir. Věra Chytilová, THE BITTER TEARS OF PETRA VON KANT (1972) dir. Rainer Werner Fassbinder, FUCKING AMAL (1998) dir. Lukas Moodysson, and MOONLIGHT (2016) dir. Barry Jenkins.
IV. My Favorite Films of the 2010's: A Video Essay

As we approach the end of the year and the start of "List Season", film critics Shay Wescott and Jack Hanley (Friday Night Weird and Hanley On Film) take a look back at their combined Top 30 Films of the 2010s- we hope you add a few to your Holiday watchlist!
V. Seasonal Film Trend I'm Looking Forward to This Week
It's "Cozy Kino" Season! What IS Cozy Kino you ask? Enjoy this short primer by critic and friend of the channel Patrick Willems- and then don your sweater and light that fire.
